F.A.Q.
Why is it that some movies do not play at Mahoning Valley Cinema?
Some movies open with a limited number of prints. When that happens, the movie will be limited to the larger metropolitan areas. For example, with movies like Mission Impossible III, Ice Age 2, RV, The Wild, etc. studios will distribute 3,000 to 4,000 prints nationwide so those movies play almost everywhere. For movies like Good Night Good Luck, or Brokeback Mountain there may only be about 500 to 1,000 prints, if not less, and therefore these films will only play close to major cities, depending on how limited the release is. Sometimes we may be able to play these movies a few weeks later when a print becomes available, as we did with Brokeback Mountain. We attempt to show a variety of different movies to suit everyone's tastes.
Why don't you have schedules for movies weeks in advance?
Our film schedules are confirmed on Monday prior to that Friday's opening week. Then a schedule has to be created. We often don't have a final confirmations on the bookings until later that week. Even if we know that a certain movies will be opening, often others are not confirmed yet. In addition, we don't know what movies will be ending until that Monday morning, based on the weekends business. Only after all the information is known, what new films we have, what old films will be leaving, and a printable schedule for all the show times are we able to release the dates and times to the newspaper or our website.
